OAHE, Inc., a nationally accredited private non-profit community-based agency, has been providing supports and services to persons with developmental disabilities since 1982. The agency started as a group of concerned parents and guardians coming together to search out available services for loved ones with developmental disabilities.
Over the years, services for people with developmental disabilities have grown. We currently provide services in the following areas: residential, employment, day services, health care coordination, and case management. We provide support to 80 individuals in Central South Dakota.
As time went by we developed contract services for Oahe Inc. to provide employment opportunities. We currently have contracts with large and small companies in our community to provide a variety of services. In addition, we run a shredding business. These contracts provide an opportunity for people to explore different careers and enter the workforce.
In April 2014 our business expanded to provide Financial Services. This department assists with trust management, Veterans administration fiduciary and Social Security representative payee services. These services assist with financial management to allow people to live independently in the community.
Also in April 2014, Oahe Inc. assumed responsibilities for the Recycle for Life program. Recycle for Life provides better mobility, comfort, or a sense of well being to people with disabilities in need of assistance obtaining durable medical equipment and assistive devices. We secure donated durable medical equipment from those who no longer need it, clean and refurbish the equipment, and redistribute the equipment to South Dakota citizens in need. Through Recycle for Life we are giving people with disabilities an opportunity to have a better life and mobility.
